Courtney Bennett, Executive Director

Courtney D. Bennett, Executive Director for the Literacy Empowerment Action Project (LEAP), is a global competence and youth development expert. For more than ten years she has been involved in leading youth advocacy efforts mainly around education and social justice. As an Educator, Courtney has worked to increase literacy domestically as well as in several other Asian and African countries, and is the author of several STEM education and service-learning curriculums. In 2013, she represented the United States as a Delegate and led the District of Columbia Youth Advisory Council through cultural, educational and economic exchanges at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) as well as the prestigious Peking University in Beijing, China. Prior to joining LEAP, Courtney has held several global leadership positions including: Senior Leader- Global Logistics, Give1Project; Advocate, Akon Lighting Africa Project; Member, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy; Reviewer, Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Courtney is currently involved in shaping local, national and global policies and programs that benefit the Global Campaign for Education for All including: girls’ education and human rights, barriers, education and equity, the role of the private sector in education, education as a matter of national security, education in emergencies, anti-islamophobia, educating refugees and migrants, international best practices in the teaching profession, and other challenges faced as the global education movement moves to a global learning movement. She was selected by ColorComm, a business community for women of color in the communications industry, as one of 5 women in the United States to participate in the ColorComm Digital Media Fellowship for the 2016 Social Good Summit hosted by the United Nations Foundation. 

Courtney envisions a world in which girls and women are able to participate fully in the economic growth, political stability, and social innovations of their countries; and her mission is to work to advance the full participation of girls and women globally through educational, entrepreneurial and economic empowerment.
